The Red Scare was the promotion of a fear of national foreign communists influencing society, infiltrating the government, or both in the United States. This fer of communists went on for ten years, starting in 1947 and ending in 1957, occurring after World war II. Federal employee were tested on their loyalty, known as the Loyalty Order) and the government and movies in Hollywood were investigated on claims of discrete promotion of Communism. People feared that during the cold war, Americans would turn against the U.S. to work as soviet spies. This fear was pure fantasy though, The Soviet Union had been known in the past to us U.S. citizen for spies, such as during World War II. Due to the Korean War and exaggeration by famous figures, many began to worry the "Reds" would take over their country. Propaganda(as shown to the left) and conservatism became popular. People thought to be communists were heavily questioned, and often alienated from from friends as well as fired from their jobs. Luckily this mass panic began to fade in the 1950s.
