The Berlin Blockade and Airlift was an international crisis that arose in 1948 due to the Soviet Union attempting to force the western powers out of their post World-War II jurisdictions in West Berlin. Lasting for only a year, the Russians began a blockade of rail, road, and water. In response, the United States and Britain began to deliver supplies into these areas. Tensions remained high but no war eve broke out between the countries. This airlift kept life going until 1949 when the blockade was finally lifted. |
